Howard M. Frankel

Howard Frankel was born in New York on 11/23/1929 to Harry and Mae Frankel. He had a younger brother Julien. The family lived in the Bronx, NY and by 1940 lived in Cliffside Park, NJ. About the time of Howard’s death, the family was living on 3 Grange Court in Teaneck, NJ.

Sergeant Frankel was a light weapons infantryman serving in the 7th Division, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Company K.  He went missing and was presumed killed in action on 10/18/52 during the Battle of Triangle Hill near Kumwa, North Korea. This courageous soldier was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Sergeant Frankel is memorialized at the Honolulu Memorial, courts of the Missing, Honolulu Hawaii. He is also listed on the Korean War memorial in Dayton, Ohio.

Sgt Howard M Frankel - Sgt Frankel, Company K, 3rd Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, was Killed in Action during the 12 day Battle of Triangle Hill (598) near Kumhwa North Korea on October 18, 1952. Frankel's company was part of a two company assault on Hill 598 against the Chinese Peoples Volunteer Army 15th Corps. After two attempts to take the crest of the hill, both companies suffered heavy casualties, Frankel being one of them, & had to be withdrawn. His remains were not recovered. He was awarded the Purple Heart & Combat Infantry Badge. Frankel's name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing.
