August 4, 1938 marked the passing of an era of transportation the trolley line to the Hudson and the beginning of the Bus transportation. Pictured left is the last official car to run over the line and its crew. Passengers on the occasion were municipal officials of the several municipalities which the line had served since April 1, 1903. This is a hitherto unpublished photo. |

Believe it or not the people in the picture are waiting for the trolley that formerly ran through Lower Teaneck. In picture are the late Blauvelt Westervelt former Township Clerk, and Mrs. Frederick Schuh who now lives in the old Demarest place on Teaneck Road |

Trolley Line Served Teaneck 40 Years The old Teaneck Trolley line came into being in 1898 when the Bergen County Traction Company was granted a franchise to extend its line from Leonia across the meadows to Bogota passing through Lower Teaneck. The Ridgefield-Teaneck Railway Company as it was known was later merged with the New Jersey and Hudson River Railway and Ferry Company after which the latter was extended from Bogota to Hackensack and subsequently to Paterson. The last trolley car on this line was operated August 5, 1938. |
