Fire Insurance Rates
Official recognition of the steady progress in the Teaneck Fire Department was given on May 8, 1935, by the Schedule Rating Office of New Jersey, through which authority the insurance rating of our Township was raised from "E" to "C". This higher rank automatically established lower insurance rates, beneficial to all homes and business enterprises in Teaneck.
While the saving to the individual is relatively small, and does not immediately compensate for the expenses involved in the firemanic improvements that were required to place us in "C" Class, we must not overlook the additional protection to life and property, now being rendered because of increased Department personnel and apparatus, a better alarm system, and improved equipment, with an accompanying general elevation of Department efficiency.
The total general saving throughout the Township, resulting from lower rates, is estimated to be $12,000 per year; so, through accumulated savings over a period of several years, the benefits thus derived will largely offset the cost of reaching the awarded "C" classification.

The larger amounts expended in 1934 and 1935, are mainly accounted for by the increased personnel of Temporary Firemen at the then established salary of 1,200 yearly per man.
"Quadruple" Truck: Pumper, Ladder, Hose and Booster
Originally this apparatus was a straight City Service Hook and Ladder Truck; it is now converted into a "Quadruple", so called because of its four purposes as a pumper, ladder truck, hose wagon, and booster.
The work of conversion was done by the Department mechanic, at an approximate cost of $275. This consisted of rearranging the super-structure to accommodate a pump (350 gallon per minute capacity), which was removed from Engine No.2, the installation of a 40 gallon Booster Tank, rebuilding of the body to hold 1000 feet of hose, and placing of minor equipment. The pump taken from Engine No. 2, has been replaced by a 750 g-allon capacity unit.
