Daniel Richard Paul
Daniel Paul was born in New Jersey on 2/6/1923 to his parents Dominick Parlo and Mary Parlo. His parents were born in Italy. Daniel had older brothers Alfred and Edward; and an older sister, Rose. The family lived in Passaic, NJ and in Teaneck, NJ. He was a resident of California at the time of his death.
Daniel attended Teaneck High School and graduated in 1942. In his High School Yearbook, “Danny” is described as “the man about town” who likes sports, planned on becoming an aviator and attending college. He was a member of the High School Football Team, Baseball Team, Track Team and Golf Team. He was also a member of the Bowling Club and the School Newspaper, The Te-Hi News.
After graduating from high school, Daniel enlisted in the armed forces and was a World War Two veteran. He married Grace Connell and he re-enlisted during the Korean War.
During the Korean War, Navy Lieutenant Paul served as a pilot on the aircraft carrier USS Boxer (CV-21). Lieutenant Paul was killed when his fighter plane crashed off of the east coast of Korea on 7/23/53 while returning from a combat mission. His remains were not recovered. Tragically, this was only a few days before the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed on 7/27/53.
This valiant Naval Officer was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal, World War Two Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal and the Republic of Korean War Service Medal.
Lieutenant Paul was survived by his wife, Grace; and by his daughters, Sharon and Linda. He is memorialized at Calvary Cemetery (Paterson, NJ), at the Korean War Memorial(Dayton, Ohio) and at the Honolulu Memorial, Courts of the Missing(Honolulu, Hawaii).

- Lieut Daniel Richard Paul - Lt Paul was a World War 2 Veteran. During the Korean War, Paul was a pilot of a F2H-2P Banshee fighter assigned to Composite Squardon 61 aboard the USS Boxer (CV-21). While returing from a combat mission over Korea on July 23, 1953, the wing tip of Paul's aircraft hit the ocean, & he crashed, His remains were not recovered. Paul's name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with a Gold Star, Air Medal with 6 Gold Stars & the Purple Heart.
