Winfred Thompson Kipp

Winfred Thompson Kipp was born in Massachusetts on November 22nd, 1919 to Raymond and Ethel Kipp.  Winfred was the younger brother to Dorothy, two years his elder. The family, along with Ethel’s parents Alice and John Thompson lived in Berkshire Massachusetts until the family, moved to New Hampshire, only to move to 286 Highwood Ave. in Teaneck New Jersey by 1941. After graduating high school Winfred went to college to pursue a career as an actor. He was only to complete two years. On December, 30th, 1941 Winfred went down to Newark to enlist. Only a few weeks after his twenty-second birthday, he joined the Air Corps Reserve. After basic training and he received his pilot wings In October 1942.  That same month Kipp was sent down to Columbia, South Carolina to the now Shaw Air Force Base, then called Shaw Field (the Army Air Corps Southeastern Air Corps Training Center) for advanced flying training to join a medium bombardment group as their pilot. Kipp was promptly sent overseas. He had achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant before his death on August 22nd,1945. Lieutenant Kipp was buried at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Red Hook NY.
