Township voters have a choice among 14 candidates running for 4 three-year terms and three candidates running for a two-year unexpired term.

Long term Councilman Paul Ostrow is not seeking reelection, nor is Councilman Emil "Yitz" Stern.

Councilman Randall Day, who was appointed in January to fill the remainder of former Councilman Michael Gallucci's term following Gallucci's resignation, is not seeking reelection. But Councilman David Langford, appointed in January following the resignation of former Councilwomen Deborah Veach, is seeking reelection to fill the two unexpired years of Veach's term.

The Teaneck Suburbanite is publishing interviews with candidates in two alphabetical parts. The interviews will continue next week.

David Langford

Incumbent David Langford, 53, is seeking to fill the remaining two years of the un-expired term of Deborah Veach. Langford was appointed to Veach's seat in January.

The Circle Driveway resident has lived in Teaneck for three years. He is director of athletics at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Langford has served as vice Chairman of the Teaneck Economic Development Board and has worked with the Teaneck Road Business and Community Alliance. He is also a member of the Circle Driveway Block Association.

Langford wants to help bring the community together and foster business development.

"Teaneck is 90 percent residential," he notes. "We need to do a better job revitalizing the business community.

"Teaneck has a variety of cultural and social interests," said Langford. "Before we can decide what we can do to revitalize the township, we need to come up with a consensus of the direction to move in and come up with a plan."

Langford is also concerned with the relationship between township employees and management.

"The police, fire and DPW employees want to be shown the respect they deserve," he said. "There have been issues between the employees and the manager. One of the things we can do to ameliorate that situation is to remind ourselves that we all deserve respect and that we need to treat people responsibly and respectfully."
